SpaceCloud makes its maiden spaceflight with D-Orbit in Q2 2021

Unibap AB (publ) has signed a launch service and mutual collaboration contract for In-Orbit Validation (IOV) and In-Orbit Demonstration (IOD) of SpaceCloud hardware and services with D-Orbit UK Ltd. The contract covers launch and operations of an Unibap SpaceCloud iX5-100 payload under a no-exchange of funds agreement. Unibap and D-Orbit will jointly perform the validation and demonstration for the purpose of evaluating and developing future commercial cloud computing services in space. Unibap contributes with flight computer hardware, SpaceCloud software. The D-Orbit contribution is the integration and launch of the SpaceCloud payload. Both organisations will demonstrate sophisticated applications using the SpaceCloud ecosystem.

Unibap's SpaceCloud solution will be integrated into D-Orbits ION Satellite Carrier spacecraft scheduled for launch in Q2 2021. The ION spacecraft will operate in a Polar, close to Sun Synchronous orbit (SSO).

Under the collaboration agreement, Unibap will deliver flight hardware and software to D-Orbit for spacecraft integration in March 2021. Unibap will support the spacecraft integration on ION and joint operations after launch. The ION platform is designed, manufactured, and operated by D-Orbit. While its primary function is to deliver and deploy smaller satellites into precise orbits and orbital slots, the spacecraft includes a plug-and-play mechanical, electric, and data interface that streamlines the integration of hosted payloads, like innovative technologies developed by startups, experiments from research entities, and instruments from traditional space companies with a mass ranging between 1 and 200 kg.

The purpose of this mission is to demonstrate these new capabilities, characterize performance and gain practical experience in the operation of a cloud node in a spacecraft, connected securely to the cloud environment on the ground. A range of innovative solutions will be demonstrated, for advanced geospatial Earth Observation (EO) and Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) applications using sophisticated, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) algorithms for extremely low-latency decision support. In addition, we will experiment with a variety of compression techniques for telemetry, and streaming video and other types of data.

The joint team will upload additional SpaceCloud applications and experiments as permitted by onboard resources and platform availability throughout the mission lifetime to maximize the business potential of in-space data processing. Opportunities for third parties to demonstrate the software as the first commercially available Cloud in Space may also be offered.

Unibap is supported by the European Space Agency through an ongoing project within the General Study Technology Program (GSTP) for supporting third party applications and aimed at the technology maturation of the SpaceCloud reliability SafetyChip and SafetyBoot features. SpaceCloud enable containerized orchestration and isolation which allow the resources to be assigned to parallel execution of applications. Unibap have teamed with a range of organisations including ENEA, US-based SaraniaSat Inc, 12G Flight Systems AB for SpaceCloud ecosystem capabilities and application demonstrations.

Unibaps projekt "Perfect Data" beviljas projektmedel från VINNOVA

Unibap har beviljats projektmedel från Vinnova inom ramen för Innovationsprojekt i små och medelstora företag. Unibap kommer i projektet att vidareutveckla sitt system för att skapa artificiella operatörer, Intelligent Vision Platform, i syfte att ytterligare öka produktiviteten hos våra kunder. Projektet samfinansieras av Vinnova och Unibap varav Vinnova bidrar med 1 833 905 kr och Unibap med 1 833 905 kr för ett totalt projektvärde på 3 667 810 kronor. Projektet löper över 12 månader med start mars 2021.


D-Orbit första integratören som testar SpaceCloud i rymden

Unibap AB (publ) har tecknat ett samarbetsavtal med det engelska företaget D-Orbit UK Ltd gällande uppsändning och drift av Unibap SpaceCloud iX5-100 i rymden. Unibap och D-Orbit kommer gemensamt att utföra validering och tester i syfte att utvärdera och utveckla framtida kommersiella molntjänster i rymden. Samarbetsavtalet innebär att Unibap bidrar med SpaceCloud produkter och programvara samt att D-Orbit bidrar med integration och uppsändning till rymden under andra kvartalet 2021.

NASA väljer Unibap som leverantör av 25 SpaceCloud datorer för forskning inom distribuerad rymdfarkostsautonomi

SweTree Technologies AB lägger en uppföljningsbeställning på Unibap avseende optimering, integration och slutförande av deras system för kvalitetsavsyning av somatiska embryon för skogsnäringen. Unibap receives additional follow-up order regarding completion of pilot installation automatic sorting and quality inspection from SweTree Technologies AB

SweTree Technologies AB places a follow-up order on Unibap regarding optimization, integration and completion of their system for quality inspection of somatic embryos for the forest industry. The order is a continuation of completed design and construction work carried out during 2020 with press releases communicated in April and November 2020. The follow-on order value is approximately SEK 1,430,000 and the delivery will be carried out during spring 2021.


Unibap inleder samarbete med AWS för att integrera molntjänster inom beräkning, lagring och edge med SpaceCloud

Unibap AB (publ) tillkännager idag att man kommer avser integrera molntjänster från AWS med Unibaps hårdvara för rymdapplikationer i syfte att kunna erbjuda kunder molnteknik såsom containers och serverlös beräkningskapacitet i satelliter och rymdfarkoster med lägre latens och till en lägre kostnad. Detta kommer att underlätta datahantering i rymden för såväl satellitoperatörer som applikationsutvecklare. Samarbetet kommer ge kunder inom flyg- och satellitindustrin tillgång till AWS-tjänster och lösningar direkt i en rymdanpassad miljö och erbjuda möjligheter till autonomi och eventhantering i satelliter.

Kombinationen av Unibaps och AWS tjänster kommer ger kunder inom satellit- och flygindustrin tillgång till edgetjänster från AWS i realtid när satelliter befinner sig i omloppsbana. Därigenom kommer kunderna kunna skala systemets resurser efter behov och dynamiskt tilldela virtuell kapacitet till olika uppgifter, vid olika tidpunkter, utan inblandning av markstationer.

AWS och Unibap kommer tillsammans kunna hjälpa kunder att snabbt omvandla rådata till beslutsstödsinformation som kan användas för autonom hantering av satellitkonstellationer, för att reducera datamängder som skickas till jorden, eller för att skicka larmindikationer inom sekunder, istället för minuter eller timmar som är vanligt idag. Unibap går i och med samarbetet med i AWS Partner Network (APN) och kommer tillsammans med AWS genomföra integrationen i faser med målet att genomföra initiala tester och valideringar under 2021.


Unibap becomes a member of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partner Network and begins collaboration to integrate AWS cloud, storage and edge services into SpaceCloud

Unibap AB (publ) announces AWS integration with Unibap space-focused hardware and software that will enable container and serverless compute with lower latencies and less cost. This simplifies data management for satellite operators and application developers. The collaboration will allow customers to access AWS services and capabilities in the space environment for autonomous edge processing and event handling. The combination will give aerospace and satellite customers real-time access to AWS edge services and capabilities on orbit so that they can run various workloads that are dynamically allocated to virtual resources based on mission need without having to connect back to resources on Earth. Together, AWS and Unibap will help customers quickly turn raw satellite data into actionable information that can be used to autonomously command satellite constellations, reduce the volume of data downlinked to Earth, and disseminate alerts in seconds instead of having to wait minutes or even hours. Unibap, which has joined the AWS Partner Network (APN), and AWS will jointly perform the integration in phases, aiming for initial testing and validation during 2021.
